Salt Cay December 2017 Update : Amazingly it is now almost three months since Hurricane Irma ripped through Salt Cay. Barely two weeks later Hurricane Maria brought flooding and more extreme winds to the island. Yet today the resilience of the residents and homeowners shines strong. The wonderful effort of many individual heroes, great numbers of volunteers, the British military, and more has meant that Salt Cay stands strong, power mostly restored, rebuilding pushing forward and a spirited community getting ready to welcome guests for the 2017-2018 tourist season!

There was substantial damage to most roofs, lots of debris, and trees down … and across the island no power for many weeks. The major debris has all been cleared from the harbour area, the main roads open and driveable. Homeowners are busy working with insurance adjusters & contractors on repair plans. As of today, most of the island has power restored!!

The water plant was hit hard and is not operational, but volunteers arrived with a solar powered reverse osmosis system which is providing drinking water for all! North District businesses are briskly getting fixed to be ready for opening asap. The north shore beach has settled with steeper shoreline overall but a wonderful bright expanse of sand. The nearby reef is gorgeous and in good health. Along the western roadway, and throughout the South District both of the storms wreaked considerable havoc, with flooding from hurricane Maria a massive issue. The White House, iconic landmark of Salt Cay, has severe roof damage but work is underway to protect and preserve this historic building. Many business are open now and most other expection to be by the new year!
